I woke up this morning and looked out the window expecting to see a very bright moon. I definitely not expecting to see part of it blacked out. "why was a portion of the moon blacked out?" I wondered. I was still rubbing sleep out of my eyes. Then it hit me. "Hey, it's a lunar eclipse. What a nice surprise after the gigantic moon a month ago and the solar eclipse just two weeks ago, now there's a partial lunar eclipse. I didn't think much about it photographically until I was done with my morning exercise. The whole time outside I just enjoyed looking at the thing. Then back at the house as I was getting ready for the day it dawned on me that I could shoot the thing from out the backyard. So, not 20 minutes ago I began my efforts to shoot this. I tried a couple of different tools but settled on my 300 f/2.8mm and it's 1.4x teleconverter. It's a very sharp combo. Even then, I cropped this to what you see here. My new DSLR gives you a lot of cropping options. Good morning. Cheers Tom PS - An interesting aspect about this image is its color. The red moon might be attributed to the eclipse. You've seen lots of red moon's during eclipses haven't you. Well, in this case there's another factor in the color. The moon was setting into the western skies around here that are filled with a haze from the largest fire in New Mexico's history. It's currently burning virtually uncontrolled a mere 150 miles west of here. I'm sure that smokey haze is a big contributor to this images' red color.
