Great Horned Owl Nesting - Milnesand, New Mexico

Sometimes nature shows up in very unusual places. In this case, a Great Horned Owl has nested in a tree near the community center of central Milnesand for three of the last four years. Two or three owlets have fledged each of those years. The best part is the first year this owl nested here, they were undiscovered until just at the weekend of the Lesser Prairie Chicken Festival. For weeks, people would be walking, driving their cars, and generally carrying on just a few feet below the nest. The nest is so obvious it's hidden in broad daylight.

I've shot many images of this little family over the years. I consider the circumstances incredible which means I'm pretty lucky.
