Milnesand Get Together - 19 April 2013
Hi all! These images were taken at a friends ranch near Milnesand, NM. This is the site of the Lesser Prairie Chicken Festival I've blogged about many times before. This group of images was made during a get-together that happened in lieu of the festival. If you remember, it was cancelled due to lack of van-accessible leks. Instead of the normal festival Friday night start uber-volunteer Betty Williamson opened her house up for a smaller gathering. Those lucky enough to attend included a group of Texas Tech students who were out on a field trip for their nature journalling class and to do a few service projects in the area. Thanks for coming out, guys.
After dinner there was a little walk in the prairie which included a Salute-to-the-Sun--Thanks Tish. Afterwards, the Blackwater Draw Boys entertained the small crowd in the "2nd living room". Founder Travis Erwin is the animated guitar/fiddle player. Jon Barr is in the middle. Last but not least is Roger Gatchet who makes the harmonica sing. The band was here without two of their members. I can only imagine what they sound like with five guys taking it up a notch.
There are a couple of small videos embedded in the gallery to show off what I mean.
